Alexander Salvesen: Indian Summer
Is it possible to create summer in the middle of the winter, and is it allowed to do so, 2019
Indian Summer (Intiaanikesä in Finnish) asks if it's possible to create summer in the middle of the winter, and is it allowed to do so. The summer of 2018 saw unprecedented heat waves across the globe. Our ridiculous use of resources and energy for superfluous things and the still ongoing denialism whether the climate crisis is real or not has acted as a spark for the installation. The work also comments on our need for light and warmth in the middle of the cold and dark winters in the North. In the end of the day, what is enough? and how much do we really need? Since the work was realised in 2019 not much progress has been made. The earth is still warming even faster than before, and new heat records happen every year.
