Isabella Chydenius: Club lights are like traffic lights for lost dancers
A light sculpture part of the artists body of work on safer club culture.
The artwork portrays two elements of the artists research into safer space club culture; the rigid square shape of heteropatriarchal norms which aim to control behaviour and growing acceptance of non-heteropatriarchal norms, meanwhile the light inside this square sculpture may be read as a metaphor of the joy and empowerment that takes place in safer space clubs.
By existing - both the physical medium of light and the metaphorical medium of light as empowerment – the light escapes the rigid square and therefore challenges its confines constructs.
