Jari Vuorinen (Lighting Design Collective): Vire
Public artwork in Kruunuvuorenranta, Helsinki (Koirasaarentie 34, Helsinki).
Vire is a light art sculpture created by Jari Vuorinen from Lighting Design Collective as a part of a series of light artworks in Kruunuvuorenranta, Helsinki. The sculpture consists of cables stretched out between two facades. The work is lit from three different directions.
Vire was one of the first permanent light art interventions created for the residential buildings in Kruunuvuorenranta. It connects two facades with 145 pieces of steel wires to create an interesting daytime view. During the night the slowly changing cold and warm hues of the LED lighting give the wires a transcendental and ethereal expression that creates an illusion of softness.
The installation method of the wires allows for a slightly “twisted” look and fell that further enhances the illusion of softness. Even in daytime the harsh steel wires seem almost like thin fibers of fabric.
