Jussi Kamunen: Celeritas
The light-lens composition Celeritas offers an opportunity to see the world through new lenses, literally. The work consists of second-hand eyeglass lenses, which form a towering light sculpture.
The light-lens composition Celeritas offers the opportunity to see the world through new lenses. In the central part of the work lies the exploration of the viewer's own perspective and the reminder that things can be seen in different lights and from different angles. The lenses used in the artwork have been collected second-hand, providing viewers with a tangible opportunity to see the world through lenses previously used by others.
The artwork can be placed indoors or outdoors. Its size can be adjusted according to the location of the event. The artwork includes specially composed music to accompany it.
The visual expression of the artwork adapts to the location. Light directed from below highlights the lenses and the optical phenomena they create. Glass surfaces can also be used as translucent gobos or diffusers if there are wall surfaces available in the location. With dynamic control, the artwork can respond to different lighting conditions, bringing it to life.
Looking through the lenses allows for deeper contemplation of the impact of different perspectives or the playful nature of optics. The interactivity, playfulness and accessibility of the artwork enable a great potential for visitors to engage with the work through own photography.
