Galleria Kandela: Light Chi
A performance and an art piece of moving light, 2015
The performers, light and space together create both a performance and an art piece of moving light. Light Chi combines the serenity and calmness of tai chi with the energetic movement of light and shadow, exaggerated by the dimensions of the space. It balances between the weight of the bodies of the performers, bounded by gravity, and bursting immateriality of the beams of light, flickering through space, uninhibited. How does the movement accentuate, how does the space live, when the sources of light are attached to performers?
Choreography by Mammu Rankanen mixes film noir with action film in slow motion. Performed by Rankanen, Virpi Juntti and Kaisu Hölttä. Light Chi is a part of the Light and Movement -concept of Galleria Kandela.
A platform for lighting designers to try out their work in a visual arts' context
