Immanuel Pax: Moderate Visibility

Immersive PANI projection, 2014

A PANI projector (or multiple projectors) is aimed at the viewer and the image slides are projected onto the audience seating and the projection screen behind it. Audience uses custom made plastic goggles to view the slides, creating an immersive viewing experience. The projected image fills the entire field of view and moving one's head makes the viewer to move inside the image. It creates a virtual reality experience made completely with analog elements. The hand painted glass image slides are inspired by the photos taken with the Hubble space telescope but also the beautiful microscopic images from our own planet. The scale of the work shows everything between the Macrocosm and microcosm – a philosophy conceptualized by Pythagoras where a human body is seen as a reflection of the entire cosmos. The viewer is inspired to think his/her own position in this scope.
