Emma Rönnholm: Swipe / Pyyhkäisy

Kinetic installation; Slide projector, 80 slides and a motorised mirror sculpture (Mirrors, textile, motor, paint brush, wood and metal). 2018/2019

Photo slides from family albums are projected via a mirror mosaic onto the wall. The mirror pieces are fastened to an elastic fabric screen, behind which a brush rotates, touching the back of the screen slightly as it passes. The image on the wall falls apart and comes back together. A dreamlike state of flux is created, where the familiar becomes mysterious and our interpretation of visual signs is challenged. The selection of photos used can be varied to make the work site/context specific; e.g. referring to the history or theme of the event.
