Teemu Määttänen: Atlas Tree

Imaginary mappings of tree structures through movement.

In Atlas Tree, imaginary maps and mappings fill trees with moving and ever-changing images. The work explores maps through movement in different scales, from the microscale of nutrients moving through the tree to the macroscale of traffic, industry and the society all the way to the cosmic scale. The work presents itself a little differently each time, as it is built upon simple real-time algorithms. "I study the relationships of space, light, colour, and movement through the use of projected images on top of surfaces and objects. I'm very interested in the associations simple shapes moving on top of objects can elicit in the viewer. I want to create works that help me share and facilitate these observations and associations with other people."
