Ville Mäkelä: Иван V ( Ivana V)
A critical and timely work about the cruel cycle of despotic rule which perpetuates itself as tyrants amass power through fear.
Throughout history, the vicious cycle of oppressive rule has repeated itself as leaders utilize fear to seize and maintain power. From ancient times to the present, Russia and its neighbors have found themselves ensnared in this harsh reality time and again. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine serves as a stark example of this cruelty.
This work serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of silence in the face of such abuses. It urges us to speak out against tyrants and demand accountability. With each act of violence, it becomes increasingly evident that we must confront these oppressors to break free from their grip. Depicting a tyrant as a clown in this portrait aims to challenge the audience's perception, compelling them to recognize the absurdity and peril of non-democratic power.
